Our story

Akulayi Kanyiki, a Congolese born and living in Germany, created ALLEON in 2013 in the Cologne neighbourhood after being at a party in the surroundings of cologne. At the party, he noticed that the guests were wearing fashionable outfits in neutral colours, following the mainstream and without any diversity. Despite the good atmosphere at the party, he felt bored and realised that something is missing, emotions and a little bit more colours.

Suddenly, in the middle of the crowd, there she stood. A woman, wearing a knee-length, bright, bold, elegant dress with vibrant colours and geometric patterns in African prints, combined with heels and a clutch bag in the same colours. Everyone’s eyes were on that women, and he knew that she had chosen the perfect outfit. He loved the way that vibrant red, blue and yellow colours make her feel special and cheer her up. Her dress made her stand out against any background she finds herself in, without worrying about what others might think. He was used to seeing these African print fabrics during traditional weddings or in his mom’s closet but not at a party. At that moment he realized that colours truly do affect the way we feel. He understood that clothes have the power to change moods and they are a creative way to express emotions. With her dress, the woman was able to express her individuality, her personality and her creative voice. Christian truly believe that vibrant colours in her dress made her feel the best version of herself and that there is not anything else needed to stand out of the crowd.

The online research for brands selling similar dresses was not successful. His friend Noella explained that this specific dress was unique, as the woman had tailored the dress for herself and further explained that this kind of dresses and styles are not available in stores or online. The first reason is that the customer has to research the specific design, buy his fabric, find a tailor to make the dress, wait for the processing time to get the final dress. That takes time and the result often doesn’t meet the expectation, due to sizing issues, material quality or poor finishing. Christian felt there was a gap in the market for standardized, well made and colourful African inspired products, at affordable prices and ready to be shipped.

Accordingly, he decided to start a business selling African print products in vibrant colours to men & women around the world, by combining his own designed African inspired fabrics with western fashion trends. ALLEON, which is the anagram of his friend Noella, was born.

We are the result of a Vision to dress people in African inspired clothing and want to inspire our customers to love what makes them different and let them stay out of the crowd.

The best version of yourself is our brand claim, a leitmotiv which has evolved in our journey since 2013 and trough which we aim to continue offering a distinctive experience to anyone engaging with our brand.

Our Inspiration

Our biggest inspiration is our African heritage and our love for self-expression through colourful, unique and refreshing clothing. That is the reason why our collections are made of vibrant, eye-catching African inspired print fabrics. The print signifies something more than a fashion statement. African prints are our first point of contact with our culture as Africans because when we are born we were wrapped in African wax print. It is a major part of every African’s heritage and every wax print tells a unique story. The wearer uses the symbolism of the print as a form of visual communication, which is why African prints perfectly fit in our brand. They are bright, bold, elegant and suit a variety of taste and sizes. Further, they are easy to incorporate into everyday style as well as any other occasion such as for a night out or formal events. You don’t need anything else to stand out of the crowd.
